Chicago has a pretty happening art scene, but you might be particularly interested in visiting Agent Gallery while in town for AACD 2018. The gallery's founder and proprietor Mariano Chavez is fascinated with vintage medical devices, including dental phantoms.
His unique collections were recently featured by Atlas Obscura, the "definitive guidebook and friendly tour-guide to the world's most wondrous places." According to the article, Chavez is "drawn to these vintage medical devices both for their sculptural qualities and for their particular uses." “I like that people apply some sort of training and understanding to these objects,” he explains.
Chavez graciously provided the AACD with a number of photos of his dental phantoms, saying "Some [of the phantoms] you may have not seen, but I really like them and they are rare--the columbia phantom with the catch basin is quite unique."
